The Next Best
Sarah, worried, asked: “Where is your mother?” Emily shrugged. Emily shook her head. Sarah was torn. Sarah was torn. She wanted to help her, but had to get to work.
She did the next thing. She took out her purse and gave her all the loose change. “Here, $30. “Please buy yourself a snack.”
Take the Money
She looked up at Sarah and was filled with tears. She reached out with both her hands and carefully took the money. She then put the money into her back pocket.
Sarah was unable to spend more time with the girl. She said, “I must go to work right now. Take care,” and left.
Couldn’t stop thinking about Her
Sarah watched her as she walked to her building. How could a girl so young beg on the street? She thought to herself. Sarah could not stop thinking about her for the rest the day.
She decided to return to her home after work.
