Jerky Motions
Ian briefly considered diving in the water to see what lay beneath the log. He quickly dismissed this impulse when he remembered the warning he’d heard about snakes.

The logic of his father’s theory began to fade as he studied the scene. The unexpected movements of the log, as well as its twists, seemed out of place, especially in a river that is normally predictable. The log did not move randomly or occasionally. The log moved as though it were being propelled by an invisible force. He didn’t believe the gentle flow of the river was the only cause for his behavior. He was filled with skepticism as he pondered the mystery before him.
A Thought
Ian grabbed his stick and quickly ran to the bush. He tore it apart and stripped its leaves. He grabbed the tree and slowly walked to the water.

He scanned the area looking for a solution and his eyes fell upon a long, tucked-away stick hidden within a bush. A spark of inspiration ignited in his mind and a plan began to form.
